Mandolin Trainer Privacy

Privacy

This page says what the app and this site do with what you play and what you type, in roughly the order you are likely to ask. Anything on it, or anything missing from it: contact@mandolintrainer.com.

Effective August 31, 2026. If any of this changes, the change and its date go here.

Your microphone

The app listens so it can grade what you play. The sound is analyzed on your device as you play it, and that is the whole of what happens to it. Nothing the app hears is recorded, stored, or uploaded, with an account or without one. There is no address on the server that accepts audio at all. The permission notice on iOS says the same thing: "Mandolin Trainer listens to your instrument to grade what you play. Nothing it hears leaves your device."

Using it without an account

Nothing here needs a sign-up. Everything the app knows about your practice sits in your browser's storage on that device, or in the app's own storage on an iPhone or iPad, and goes nowhere else.

What signing in stores

Three things, and this is all of them:

That list is what "backed up and synced across devices" means. Nothing else about you is kept.

Where it is kept

On Cloudflare, in a database and a storage bucket. Sign-in codes are delivered through Resend, an email service; that mail is plain text with a code in it.

Your email address

The only mail sent to you is the sign-in code, plus a reply if you write in. No marketing, no newsletter, and your address is never sold or handed to anyone. If news by email is ever offered, it will be a box you check, unchecked to begin with, and every message will carry an unsubscribe link.

How long it is kept

For as long as your account exists. The practice history is kept in full rather than trimmed back, because the point of an account is that a year of practice is still there after a phone is not. Your device holds only the most recent stretch of it; the account holds all of it.

Starting over, and deleting

Both are in the app under Settings. Start over clears your progress and your practice history, from your account and from every device you are signed in on. Your saved songs stay. Delete account removes the account and everything above from Cloudflare right away: practice history, progress, sessions, and your address. You can also email contact@mandolintrainer.com and ask for deletion.

Cookies, and counting visits

Signing in on the web sets one cookie, which does nothing but keep you signed in for thirty days (the iOS app holds a saved sign-in instead). Apart from that, this site and the browser version of the app use Rybbit, a cookie-free analytics service that counts page views, and which screens and buttons get used, without identifying anyone. The iOS app does not load it either. Cloudflare serves the site and keeps the ordinary server logs any web host keeps.

The feedback form

What you write, and the reply address if you give one, are sent to the contact inbox as an email. None of it goes into a database.

Payments

There are none yet. When paid plans arrive, the payment processor will be named on this page, and card details will never touch Mandolin Trainer's own servers.
